Background of the Study
Grassroots campaigns play a crucial role in political engagement, particularly in areas where traditional forms of campaigning, such as rallies and advertisements, may not be as effective. In Birnin Kebbi LGA, Kebbi State, grassroots campaigns focusing on women’s mobilization have been increasingly important in enhancing political participation among women (Sadiya & Ahmad, 2023). Women’s involvement in politics in rural areas like Birnin Kebbi has been historically low, but recent efforts to engage women at the community level have led to increased political awareness and involvement (Abubakar & Musa, 2023). This study explores the effect of grassroots campaigns, with a particular focus on women’s mobilization, in shaping political engagement in Birnin Kebbi LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While grassroots campaigns have been identified as essential for increasing political engagement, the specific impact of women’s mobilization in Birnin Kebbi LGA remains under-researched. The role of grassroots campaigns in fostering women’s political participation and ensuring their representation in the political process is a critical area for investigation, particularly in regions where women are often marginalized in political affairs (Aliyu & Bello, 2023). This study aims to assess the effectiveness of grassroots campaigns in promoting women’s political engagement in Birnin Kebbi LGA.

This study will contribute to a better understanding of how grassroots campaigns, especially those focusing on women’s mobilization, can enhance political participation in rural communities. The findings will provide valuable insights for political parties, women’s rights groups, and policymakers aiming to increase women’s representation and participation in politics.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Birnin Kebbi LGA, Kebbi State, and will specifically examine grassroots campaigns targeting women during the 2023 elections. The research will not extend to other regions or gender-focused campaigns outside the scope of women’s political mobilization.
